Apple

Apple is killing it with a new nano, updated touch, and a very nice tv unit. Huge news day for Apple. This is good stuff and great timing before the Holidays.

FI have a 3gs iPhone and a MacBook. Outside of that, for work I have 15 iPod touches, iPads, etc… I talk with Apple dev reps regularly and my clients will purchase around 5,000 iPod touches in the next month. To put that in perspective, “mac” dev is less than 5 percent of our software business (that is changing though, for various reasons).

So first off, in the news is a bit on Windows Mobile 7

And then there is the nano and touch.

It will be interesting to see if the Windows 7 unit takes off like the Zune or if it sales as much as the droid or if it does well. Anyhow, if you haven’t seen the newness, check out engadget for the latest.

“If someone is said to be the judge, jury, and executioner, it means they are in charge of every decision made, and they have the power to be rid of whomever they choose.”

I am by no means the Judge, Jury and Executioner on most of what I do. I am on some projects though. So peeps need to watch what they do.

I recently came up with a great interview for hiring in India. The people that past the interview are excelling. Those that had come on board before I had created the interview process are, well, uh. Lets just say I will be traveling back to India in a few weeks to see how things are progressing.

It is very important to know what you want when hiring. If you know exactly what you want, you can create an interview around the position. My interviews now are around 4-5 hours. I don’t really get into “personality” but concentrate on “skills.” I feel that my interaction is enough for “personality” for now.

Get the right person for the job, not just a place holder.

Cash Offer

I have seen people make cash offers before on homes and done it. I have also seen people write large earnest money checks. What I had not seen until Friday was a guy write a check for a house, basically he made a cash offer with the earnest money check of the full amount. Some people just do big things.

Looks like I will be here for a while. I will be traveling back and forth to India every 2-3 months for 2-3 weeks. We had a few good things happen this week. We did demos of my recent work to 2 fortune 100 CEO’s. Previously I had shown the demos to key people in the right places, we have gotten a bit of traction now. So I will be here trying to drum up work, while driving work here and offshore. Interesting times.

I am heading back home this weekend. I have 27 hours of travel time coming up. I enjoy airtime as it is usually the only time I get to gather thoughts. 27 hours might be a bit excessive though. I now have 7 employees here that will be holding down the fort while I am away. All and all the trip was a decent success.

Outlook

There are different ways that people can view life. This is a different approach that might add value to your outlook.

To be successful you have to create opportunity and add value. I previously had looked at all my jobs as stepping stones to my next “job.” I would think about how I would approach my next job search and interviews. I would seek to refine my resume to tailer my experience to the jobs that were available.

Instead of thinking like this, it has served me better to seek opportunities in various markets. I would think of how I could add value to industries, not to positions offered. I am currently in India developing a business. I could look to find a job position once I return to the US where someone has defined a need for this. Or I could seek to create opportunities for other companies and define the value proposition for them.

People know what they want to do with their business, I can make those things happen. Or I could search for jobs that offer something similar to my current skill set. For me to be truly successful I have to make things happen. I have to define where I am going with things. More on this later…

Lagging

I have been lagging a bit on updates. The reason is I am busy. Here is a picture of a shortcut we tried to take to get to the office here. It ended up being a bit slower… Shortcuts are not always quicker in life.

The internet is killing 50. Apparently he dropped from 214 to 160 pounds for a movie role. The pic speaks for itself.

Auto Mall

If you are going to do an Auto Mall, do it up. Here is a video of the autopia going up in Istanbul. Definitely a bit crazy and over the top, but the track on the roof looks like fun.
