I am always up for a challenge and feel that people need to challenge themselves to succeed in life.  I also believe that you should set yourself up for success.

Sun Tzu  “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.”

I have been a part of a project these last few weeks that has been as close to failure as I would like to get.  I have had to work beyond my capacity for a few days straight to get a decent product out to the customer.  There is a thin line between failure and success.  It is very hard to guarantee success going into a project, but as the Art of War states the better the preparation the better the rate of success.

I know “The Art of War” is supposed to be a great business book. I read (and reread) the Ralph D Sawyer version, which includes the history of the time period and the translation.

To be honest, I really don’t think I got much out of it. It has been a few years, but I didn’t find it that motivational or inspirational at the time. Did you honestly get that much out of it?

It seems to me that it’s just something people read to feel like they are a part of the elite.

It depends on your perspective. I am able to apply the principals to my life. I actually don’t think it is elite even, actually more guerrilla. A lot of people don’t understand the writing, don’t know how to apply it or just don’t need it. I think the principles can be applied to all aspects to business and life, which is why I quote it.

Maybe the version I read was just a bit to academic and slightly convoluted. It was a direct translation, so parts of it were difficult to grasp. Perhaps I should try the mini book that you have on your sidebar.

I would recommend that you read the version I have here on my site or that you peep the audio version I have here. That is if you are around computers most of the time or if you ipod much. I had a small print copy for the longest time, now I just keep a copy on my cell phone. It depends on how you read best. I can link the things metioned above if you want.

I had the hardest time reading this book as well. Then I decided to just run through the book and finish it. Once I had done that I was able to have a better grasp of the bigger picture of the book, as opposed to trying to understand each word of it. Now I can reference it or read it for education when I get time.

I also like a few other books, and they are all on the books tab up top.
